I am a former St. Ben's student - there was a good deal of animosity between the college students and "townies" when I was there. The La Playette (popular local bar in St. Joseph) would have a mix of students and townies, and fights often broke out. I wonder if anyone looked in to local troublemakers. I'm sure there were some who would love to see the Johnnys embarrassed and taken down a peg.

I think about this in relation to some of the incidents documented early on in the podcast of suspicious cars driving up on folks walking alone. While the experiences definitely sound scary as hell, it seems possible they could have been townies looking for a chance to roll some student. So still someone with menacing intent, but not necessarily as exotic as trying to abduct or murder someone. Of course this is also just speculation too. It could have been every bit as nefarious as one might imagine—but we just can’t know without more information.
